Alienware Finally Shows Us How Awesome Free Stuff Can Be

If you're like us, you're usually not very impressed by offers that include free stuff. Giving me a free lanyard with purchase of a new thumb drive isn't incentive enough to buy it, unless it's made from a lock of Princess Leia's hair. And very few people are still surprised when those infomercials tell us "Call now and we'll give you two Magic Peelers for the price of one!" So we were actually pleasantly surprised at the new deal that Alienware has going for their gaming laptops and desktops. Read on for the delicious details.

Our first reaction when buying a gaming PC is "You better be giving me free stuff; I'm dropping a large wad of dough here and the least you can do is reward me with free stuff." But this is one of the first times that we actually feel like we're being treated like valued customers.

So what's the deal, already?!

When you buy a gaming laptop (must be categorized in the Quickship Edition, which many systems did) you get free shipping, which is nothing to sneer at for expensive stuff like this. But you also get a nice bundle of peripherals worth $350. That's not a lot of money when you could be paying upwards of $2000-3000 for your laptop, but it's a lot better than getting a complimentary mouse pad and six months of AOL for free. The bundle includes a nice Orion backpack for carrying your precious laptop around, a 6-cell Smart Bay battery (for longer gameplay, hallelujah!) and a 320GB 2.5 inch Maxtor BlackArmor portable hard drive. Now that's what I call a good bundle!

If you're buying a desktop gaming machine (still must be Quickship Edition) you'll still get free shipping but a different bundle of free goods. However, it's no less enticing than what you get for the laptop. The desktop bundle gives you a 22-inch Samsung SyncMaster widescreen flat panel monitor and the Logitech Z-2300 2.1 200 Watt speakers, which I almost prefer over the laptop bundle. It's worth more too, coming in at a $425 value.

This is the kind of stuff we expect in free bundles, something that actually makes the purchase worth it (you know, aside from the smug feeling of owning a killer gaming system). We want more companies to take notice and start offering better bundles and savings, so pay attention tech companies!

We've put together a nice free bundle of blog posts to make your time here more worth it. Enjoy:
