Dell is known for producing excellent computers and giving consumers the most bang for their buck—the Dell XPS 710 is no exception—it has an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
This is a good all–around gaming computer but doesn’t excel in any one area.
The XPS 710 has a 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a front side bus of 1066 MHz.
This Intel processor utilizes dual core technology; in other words, there are two separate avenues that process information. You could play your game and run a virus scan at the same time without hindering performance.
This Dell comes with two 512 MB sticks of RAM to total 1 GB. However, for intense games, or if you plan to upgrade to Windows Vista, we would upgrade to two GB of RAM.
This Dell comes with a 250 GB hard drive, which should be sufficient for most gamers.
A computer game is only as good as the graphics card supporting it. The XPS 710 comes standard with an NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS 256 MB graphics card.
This graphics card will easily support most computer games and is typical for a gaming computer in this price range.
Dell surpasses many computers in this review when it comes to accessories making it an excellent buy if this is your first computer or you want to replace your old system.
The Dell comes complete with an optical mouse, speakers, keyboard, operating system, a security suite, productivity software and a 20" Ultrasharp Digital flat panel monitor.
Dell gives you a lot of computer for a reasonable price. This is an excellent buy if you’re completely replacing your old machine or this is your first computer. If you don’t need some of the accessories like the monitor or keyboard, you can take them out of the package and save money.
The Dell XPS 710 comes with a 2–year labor and parts guarantee. They’ll even come to your house for technical issues during the warranty period. You can also purchase extended warranties for your PC.
If you need technical support or just have a question when buying your Dell, you can contact customer support via email, phone or live chat.
If you’re looking for a good gaming PC at a reasonable price, around $2000, this is a good machine. One area Dell hasn’t delved into are the funky towers for which gaming computers are known—they leave that up to their subsidiary, Alienware.
