HP + CES = Green Gaming
Hewlett Packard is expected to show some new compact PCs at CES next week, but the major news is that they're to be "green" as well as for gamers. Gaming PCs are traditionally large, leaving enough room for upgrades and stylized futuristic/alien design embellishments. And while the new compact gaming PCs still won't be as eco-friendly as regular PCs, they will be significantly more ecological than customary gaming PCs.The new HP Firebird PCs will include twin hard drive bays, 4GB of RAM, a Blu-ray drive, 6 USB ports, quad-core Intel processors, and VoodooDNA (high performance computer genes used in the HP Blackbird). And while the computer itself (no monitor included) will cost you some green, it is quite economical (as well as eco-nomical) considering the $1800 price tag. Most high-end gaming rigs will cost you far more than that.
So the HP Firebird 803 won't be ultra green (no biodegradable hard drive or organic casing), but hopes to prove that gaming PCs don't have to be huge and power hungry. The compact Firebirds will run on 350 watts of power, as opposed to more than a kilowatt of power for other gaming computers. HP's Global Gaming Division CTO Raul Sood compares the innovative green gaming computer to vehicles, "It's like we took a gas-guzzling SUV of a PC, flipped it on its head and created the hybrid of high-performance PCs."
Gamers will soon be able to reclaim some desk space, save some cash, and hopefully not sacrifice a solid gaming experience, with the added benefit of knowing that their Firebird is doing its part to conserve resources. I guess you could say that gamers may finally have the opportunity to help save the world for real.
